This relief may be short-lived, as forecasters warn of possible rain around March 4-5 and the return of typical March weather patterns.

After nearly two weeks of continuous drizzle and high humidity, northern Vietnam is anticipated to experience sunnier weather and increased temperatures starting Thursday, as indicated by the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting. A cold air mass and westerly winds, which persisted since February 16, contributed to the overcast conditions.

Forecasters project that the cold air system is weakening, paving the way for warmer and drier weather in the upcoming days. From Friday to Monday, northern provinces—including Hanoi—will likely experience predominantly sunny and dry conditions, with only slight morning mist and occasional light drizzle.

In Hanoi, temperatures may rise to around 28 degrees Celsius, while provinces such as Dien Bien and Son La could see highs of 29 to 31 degrees. The return of dry weather is especially advantageous for residents affected by the prolonged dampness, allowing for the airing of clothes and other household items.

While the forecast indicates a welcome respite from the rain, meteorologists caution that additional rainfall may occur around March 4-5. Despite the anticipated sunny stretch, March and April typically involve sporadic drizzle, mist, and high humidity levels, as noted by Nguyen Van Huong, the head of the forecasting department at the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

Historically, northern Vietnam experiences approximately 7 to 10 days of drizzle in March and 4 to 6 days in April. Although this year’s weather patterns are expected to align with normal conditions, residents should remain prepared for ongoing fluctuations in weather in the weeks to come.
