Notably, Dakshin Putiya, where Al-Amin lived, is recognized as a high-crime zone frequently associated with smuggling activities, and it was reported that Al-Amin was involved in sugar smuggling.

Samiul Islam, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), stated that the BSF targeted Al-Amin under the suspicion that he was engaged in smuggling activities. Although he received treatment at the BSF camp, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries later that night. Following this incident, the UNO mentioned that the matter was communicated to the BSF through the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), with a flag meeting scheduled to facilitate discussions and the expected transfer of Al-Amin’s remains.

Community members have recounted similar incidents in the past, citing the shooting deaths of two youths in the bordering area on November 25 of the previous year and another individual on April 22. Such occurrences highlight ongoing tensions and issues along the border, particularly concerning allegations of smuggling and security enforcement.
