Racing Association of Maldives Achieves FIA Membership

The Racing Association of Maldives (RAM) has been granted membership in the International Automobile Federation (FIA), as decided in the FIA Annual General Meeting in December. This membership opens numerous opportunities for the association, enhancing resources for motorsports and allowing participation in international events. The Racing Association of Maldives (RAM) has achieved a significant milestone by obtaining membership in the International Automobile Federation (FIA). This announcement followed a decision made during the FIA Annual General Meeting held in Rwanda on December 13 of the previous year. RAM expressed that this membership will considerably enhance opportunities for promoting motorsports within the Maldives, offering unprecedented resources and international recognition previously unavailable.

President of RAM, Mohamed Shamih, emphasized that FIA membership opens numerous avenues for elevating motorsports in the Maldives. The association noted that this affiliation provides access to international standards for local competitions, along with opportunities to engage in FIA development programs and participate in global events. Furthermore, RAM aims to improve the nation’s motorsports infrastructure, including tracks and training centers, while ensuring sustainable environmental practices.

In addition to these developments, RAM looks forward to collaborating with local agencies to enhance road safety awareness and facilitate training programs for motorsport athletes nationwide. Established in 2018, RAM has successfully organized numerous tournaments, benefitting from substantial support within the sector. Nonetheless, the association faced setbacks, such as the police’s cancellation of the 2024 RAAS Championship last December, asserting the event was not permitted.

Despite facing challenges, RAM members and athletes have continued to participate in international competitions, achieving commendable results, including reaching the semi-finals of the Drag Wars in Sri Lanka this year. This ongoing involvement illustrates RAM’s resilience and commitment to fostering motorsports in the Maldives, even amidst obstacles.
