EPRA Confirms Stable Fuel Prices for March to April 2025
EPRA has announced that fuel prices for March to April will remain unchanged, with Super Petrol at Ksh176.58, Diesel at Ksh167.06, and Kerosene at Ksh151.39. The prices are valid from March 15 to April 14, 2025, and include a 16% VAT. This stability follows a slight increase in the cost of imported petrol and diesel, and recent drops in international oil prices are favorably impacting the local market.
The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has confirmed that fuel prices for Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene will remain stable during the March fuel review. Specifically, Super Petrol is priced at Ksh176.58, Diesel at Ksh167.06, and Kerosene at Ksh151.39. These prices will remain effective from March 15 to April 14, 2025.
EPRA’s announcement states that these prices include a 16 percent Value Added Tax (VAT), consistent with the Finance Act of 2023 and the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act of 2024. The authority also reported changes in the average landed costs of fuel: Super Petrol increased by 1.34 percent, while Diesel rose by 1.41 percent. Conversely, Kerosene saw a decrease of 1.36 percent from the previous month.
The regulatory body highlighted that Kenya continues to import petroleum products in a refined state, which are priced in international markets. “Currently, Kenya imports all its petroleum product requirements in refined form and the products are traded in international markets based on a pricing benchmark,” EPRA stated. Additionally, exchange rates are applied to convert transactions from US Dollars to Kenyan Shillings.
The decision to maintain fuel prices is welcomed news for many Kenyans, especially motorists, who were bracing for potential price increases. Earlier reports had suggested that EPRA was contemplating hikes to facilitate payments to oil marketing companies and product transporters. The review coincided with a recent decline in international oil prices, with the Central Bank of Kenya noting that Murban oil prices fell significantly between February 26 and March 6, 2025.
In conclusion, the EPRA has announced unchanged fuel prices for Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene, maintaining stability for consumers during this period. The retained prices are influenced by both local taxation legislation and current international market rates, reflecting movements in oil prices. This decision provides a reprieve for motorists amid concerns over potential price hikes.
