Tropical Cyclone “Jude” Targets Mozambique with Strong Winds and Heavy Rain
Tropical Cyclone “Jude” has made landfall in Mozambique, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. Central and northern Mozambique, along with southern Malawi, may face significant rainfall between 100-300 mm, with wind gusts reaching high levels. The cyclone is expected to weaken but will still impact the region significantly as it moves westward.
The World Meteorological Centre Beijing (WMC-BJ) reported that Tropical Cyclone “Jude” made landfall on the eastern coast of Mozambique at 08:00 Beijing time on March 10, 2025. The cyclone is projected to move westward at speeds between 10 to 15 kilometers per hour, experiencing a rapid decrease in intensity as it progresses.
In Mozambique, particularly in its central and northern areas, as well as southern Malawi, heavy to torrential rains are anticipated, with localized extreme rainfall. Accumulated precipitation is expected to reach between 100 to 200 mm, with certain regions experiencing rainfall exceeding 300 mm, according to WMC-BJ estimates.
Strong winds are also predicted, with gusts ranging from 8 to 9 on the Beaufort scale expected in central and northern Mozambique, including coastal areas and the Mozambique Channel. Winds in proximity to the sea and the cyclone’s center may reach a strength of 10 to 12 on the scale, with potential gusts hitting 13 to 14 degrees.
