Utilizing advanced technology, the firm is now focused on the southern Indian Ocean region, located approximately 1,500 kilometers west of Perth.

Ocean Infinity will deploy the Armada 7806, a 78-meter offshore support vessel enhanced with cutting-edge technology for underwater exploration.

The Armada 7806 features a suite of autonomous underwater vehicles, designed by Norwegian company Kongsberg, capable of operating independently at depths of up to 6,000 meters. These vehicles utilize various sonar technologies, including sidescan, synthetic aperture, multibeam, and sub-bottom profiling sonar, to create detailed maps and facilitate object detection on the seafloor.

The sonar systems utilize acoustic pulses to gather information regarding underwater topography and search for potential wreckage. Additionally, if a target is detected, cameras and lighting systems on these vehicles will assist in capturing images to accurately identify the targets.

Ocean Infinity has reported substantial advancements in its marine robotics and analytics capabilities, allowing simultaneous deployments of multiple underwater vehicles. This enhances search efficiency, aiming to cover larger areas within the designated zone.

As the operation commences, it faces the challenge of difficult weather conditions both above and below the water’s surface, which may hinder the search for up to 18 months. Notably, if the wreckage is located, Ocean Infinity will receive a payment of USD 70 million from the Malaysian government, and efforts will then focus on retrieving the aircraft’s black boxes to gather information on the final moments of the flight.
