Vice President Koung Endorses Samuel Kogar for Nimba County By-Election
Vice President Jeremiah Koung endorses Samuel Kogar for the Nimba County by-election on April 22, 2025, following the death of former Senator Prince Johnson. In a radio announcement, Koung expressed confidence in Kogar’s qualifications and urged the Mah people to allow the Dan community to participate in the election to maintain balance and stability.
Vice President Jeremiah Koung has officially endorsed Samuel Kogar, the candidate representing the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR), for the upcoming by-election scheduled for April 22, 2025. This election is necessitated by the passing of the prominent Nimba County Senator and MDR founder, Prince Johnson, in November 2024. Recently, the National Elections Commission (NEC) has announced eight preliminary candidates for the election.
In a simulcast telephone call transmitted via community radio stations within the county, Vice President Koung, a member of the ruling Unity Party, expressed his firm support for Kogar’s candidacy. He stated that Kogar possesses the qualifications necessary to succeed the late Senator Johnson. Koung explicitly mentioned, “I will support Mack Gblinwon, the candidate of the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) in a different election but not this one. I believe Kogar has all it takes to replace the late Johnson.”
Koung also appealed to the Mah people of Nimba, urging them to permit the Dan community to participate in this election. He remarked, “I am begging the Mah people! I think the Mah people should leave this election for the Dan people since we already have a Mah Senator. Let’s keep the balance to make the County stable. Let’s keep our county together and it will be in our interest.” His endorsement of Kogar clarifies any prior ambiguity regarding his candidate support following last year’s by-election when he did not formally endorse a candidate upon his elevation to the vice presidency.
In summary, Vice President Jeremiah Koung’s endorsement of Samuel Kogar for the Nimba County by-election highlights the political landscape following the death of former Senator Prince Johnson. Koung’s call for community unity reflects his desire for stability within the county, emphasizing the importance of balanced representation among the ethnic groups. His previous hesitance to endorse a candidate has been resolved with this clear support for Kogar, ensuring a more focused campaign ahead of the election.
