Eidul Fitr 2025: Predictions from Suparco and Moon Sighting Plans
Suparco predicts Eidul Fitr will fall on March 31, 2025, based on moon sighting calculations, with the crescent expected to be visible on March 30. The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will also meet to affirm this date, and the federal government has announced three days of holidays for Eid celebrations.
In a recent statement from the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), Eidul Fitr in Pakistan is anticipated to occur on March 31, 2025. This prediction is based on scientific calculations indicating that the crescent sighting is expected on March 30. Therefore, the holy month of Ramazan is projected to last 29 days, culminating in Eid celebrations on the following day.
The likelihood of sighting the moon in Saudi Arabia is reported as “almost impossible” on March 29, 2025, due to the crescent’s age being only approximately five hours at sunset. However, it is expected that the crescent will become visible on March 30, making it likely for Saudi Arabia and other parts of the Middle East to also celebrate Eid on March 31.
Astronomers had previously forecasted that Eidul Fitr would be held on March 31 in Pakistan, with the crescent’s age estimated at 26 hours on the night of March 30, enhancing the visibility prospects.
On the same note, the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is also set to convene on March 30, focusing on the Shawwal moon sighting, and will meet at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony. The outcomes of this meeting will provide additional confirmation regarding the timing of Eid.
The federal government has announced that Eidul Fitr holidays will span three days, from March 31 (Monday) to April 2 (Wednesday), as per the notification disseminated by the Cabinet Division, allowing citizens to participate fully in the celebrations.
To summarize, Eidul Fitr in 2025 is expected to be celebrated on March 31, following the sighting of the crescent on March 30, as determined by Suparco and other astronomical predictions. The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s meeting will further affirm these findings, while the federal government has permitted a three-day holiday to mark the occasion.
