Lekki Restaurant Owner Arrested in Connection with Drug Trafficking Operation

Arokodare Damil Ebenezer, owner of a Lekki restaurant, was arrested for drug trafficking, involving the importation of cannabis from the U.S. Additionally, another suspect was caught attempting to smuggle tramadol to Italy. Multiple arrests in Katsina led to the seizure of large quantities of drugs, underscoring NDLEA’s enforcement efforts against narcotics trafficking.

On March 24, 2025, authorities reported the arrest of Arokodare Damil Ebenezer, a 43-year-old restaurant owner in Lekki, Lagos. He was apprehended at Bay Lounge while awaiting a narcotics delivery, involved in the alleged importation of 60 parcels of a potent cannabis strain known as Loud from the United States.

Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media & Advocacy for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), disclosed that Ebenezer’s arrest was linked to the interception of a shipment that contained seven cartons arriving in Lagos on March 12. This consignment was seized by NDLEA operatives at a logistics company.

Following his arrest, NDLEA officials searched Ebenezer’s residence, recovering 94 grams of cannabis and drug paraphernalia, increasing the total weight of the drugs seized to 32.24 kilograms. He reportedly confessed to initiating his illicit drug operations in 2017.

Additionally, another suspect, Omoruyi Terry, was intercepted while attempting to export 1,400 tramadol pills to Italy at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport. Investigation revealed he was a frequent traveller and logistics agent based in Italy, arrested at Terminal 2 during screening.

In Katsina, during a raid operation, four suspects were arrested on March 28 with substantial quantities of compressed skunk cannabis and diazepam pills. The NDLEA seized 684 blocks of cannabis weighing 423 kilograms and 86,000 diazepam pills from the suspects, with one female suspect apprehended at her home filled with drugs.

The recent operations led by the NDLEA highlight ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in Nigeria. The apprehension of key suspects and significant drug seizures demonstrate the agency’s commitment to addressing narcotics-related issues in both urban and rural areas.
