Jameel Motors Expands Into South Africa, Distributing Changan Vehicles

Jameel Motors has launched its South African distribution of Changan vehicles, including SUVs and electric models. This move targets the growing automotive market where demand for affordable vehicles is high. The partnership aims to introduce several models by the fourth quarter of the year.

Jameel Motors, a Saudi automotive distributor, has entered the South African market by securing a distribution agreement with China-based Changan Automobile. This marks their inaugural venture into South Africa, where they will distribute a variety of vehicles including SUVs, sedans, pickups, and new energy vehicles.

As the leading automotive market in sub-Saharan Africa, South Africa exceeded 500,000 new vehicle sales in 2024, indicating a growing demand for affordable vehicles equipped with modern technology. Changan joins several Chinese manufacturers already in the region, such as Chery Automobile, BYD, Great Wall Motor, and BAIC Motor, who are also leveraging price competitiveness to capture market interest.

Operating under the Abdul Latif Jameel Group, Jameel Motors aims to initially concentrate on distributing Changan and Deepal vehicles. The companies have announced that these vehicles are anticipated to be available for purchase by the fourth quarter of this year.

Changan’s portfolio includes combustion engine vehicles like the Hunter pickup, whereas Deepal is dedicated to new energy vehicles. This year’s initial launch will feature models such as the electric SUV Deepal S07, SUV CS75 Pro, Hunter pickup truck, and Alsvin sedan.

In summary, Jameel Motors’ entry into South Africa represents a significant expansion into a key automotive market, with plans to distribute a diverse range of vehicles from Changan and Deepal. As demand for affordable, technologically advanced vehicles grows in the region, this strategic partnership is poised to strengthen the presence of Chinese automakers in South Africa.
