A tragic incident occurred in Minna, Niger State, where a stray bullet from a vigilante group’s gunfire claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy named Adnan Bulana. The shooting transpired in the Soje ‘A’ area while the vigilantes attempted to apprehend suspected criminals. However, the suspects resisted arrest by throwing stones, prompting the vigilantes to respond with gunfire and tear gas.

Local witnesses reported that Adnan was sent on an errand by his mother at the time he was caught in the crossfire between the vigilantes and the suspected hoodlums. In a related conflict, a separate brawl between rival groups in Anguwan-Roka, Maitumbi, resulted in one individual sustaining stab wounds.

According to SP Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, the vigilantes were present in Soje ‘A’ to arrest miscreants when the suspects attacked the group. Unfortunately, stray bullets struck Adnan, leading to his critical injury. Following the incident, local youths retaliated by attacking the vigilante office in the nearby Kpakungu area.

Authorities were dispatched to restore order, and Adnan was transported to the general hospital in Minna, where he was later pronounced dead. An investigation has been initiated to identify those responsible for the erratic gunfire. Additionally, on March 31, 2025, a separate altercation among youths in Angwan-Roka resulted in a stabbing, with a victim being treated at a local clinic.

The death of Adnan Bulana highlights the potential dangers associated with vigilante actions and the risks that innocent bystanders face during conflicts. Both incidents occurring in Minna, Niger State, underline the urgent need for effective policing and community safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
