During the meeting, Adhikari reminded attendees that Myanmar had previously extended assistance to Nepal during the 2015 earthquake, emphasizing the historical bond between the two nations. He noted, “At such difficult times, the Nepal government and private sector joined hands to provide relief materials to the Myanmar people, and will continue to support in the future. Such cooperation will help boost two-country intimacy.”

Heu Wai Lwin, a Myanmar government official, expressed gratitude on behalf of his country for Nepal’s support, sharing somber statistics regarding the impact of the earthquake: over 3,590 lives lost, approximately 4,800 injured, and 148 missing. Additionally, Ambassador Ghimire highlighted that approximately 150,000 Nepalis reside in Myanmar, among whom 18 tragically lost their lives in the earthquake, with 15 still unaccounted for.

The earthquake, which struck Myanmar on March 28 with a magnitude of 7.7, led to several organizations working tirelessly to provide shelter and support, including an umbrella organization for Nepalis that has assisted around 250 survivors. Furthermore, a medical team from the Nepali Army is delivering emergency medical services to affected individuals, having already treated over 1300 people in the earthquake-stricken regions.
