Police Extradite Benjamin Nnayereugo from Qatar to Nigeria for Murder Charges

Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, also known as “Killaboi,” was extradited from Qatar to Nigeria to face murder charges for the killing of Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe. The extradition followed efforts from multiple agencies and an INTERPOL Red Notice, with Nnayereugo previously evading capture across various regions.

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has successfully extradited Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, known as “Killaboi,” from Doha, Qatar, to Nigeria to face murder charges. Nnayereugo was wanted for the murder of Miss Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe, a 21-year-old first-class student from Lead City University, Ibadan, who was slain at Nnayereugo’s residence in Lagos on July 13, 2023. His extradition occurred in the early hours of Saturday, thanks to the collaborative efforts of various agencies, including the Ministry of Justice and INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB).

According to Police spokesman, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the extradition process was initiated following a petition from the family of the deceased, submitted through their legal representatives on September 29, 2024. Adejobi noted that Nnayereugo had initially fled Nigeria after committing the crime, later attempting to mislead investigations by releasing a purported confession video online. After being declared wanted, an INTERPOL Red Notice was issued on October 13, 2023, for his arrest.

Nnayereugo’s evasion of law enforcement took him through several regions, including West Africa, East Asia, and the Middle East, under various false identities. He was first arrested in Freetown, Sierra Leone, but escaped custody on November 26, 2023. Intelligence later revealed he had relocated to Doha, Qatar, operating under the alias “TOURE ABDOULAYE” with a fraudulent Guinean passport. His capture in Qatar was facilitated by biometric verification through INTERPOL NCB.

An official extradition request was made and subsequently approved by Qatari judicial authorities, leading to Nnayereugo’s return to Nigeria. Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, praised the international collaboration that led to this successful extradition and expressed gratitude to various parties involved, including INTERPOL and the Nigerian Embassy in Qatar. He assured the public of the Police Force’s commitment to ensuring that Nnayereugo faces thorough prosecution within the legal framework of Nigeria.

The successful extradition of Benjamin Best Nnayereugo from Qatar to Nigeria underscores the effectiveness of international cooperation in combating transnational crime. His return allows the Nigerian legal system to ensure accountability for the murder of Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe. The concerted efforts of law enforcement agencies, alongside diplomatic engagement, highlight a strong commitment to justice and public safety.
