An alarm was triggered by another teenager, leading KWS rangers to track the lion to the nearby Mbagathi River, where they discovered the remains of the primary school girl.

The lion responsible for this attack remains elusive; however, KWS officials have initiated a search, setting a trap and deploying teams to locate the animal. In response to this incident, additional security measures have been implemented to safeguard against further attacks. Nairobi National Park is situated merely 10 kilometers from the city center, housing various wildlife, including lions, buffalos, giraffes, leopards, and cheetahs.

Although conflicts between lions and humans are not uncommon in Kenya, particularly concerning livestock, fatalities from such encounters are rare. Last year, CCTV footage recorded a lion seizing a Rottweiler dog from a residential area near the park. In another distressing incident, KWS reported the death of a 54-year-old man due to an elephant attack in central Nyeri County, approximately 130 kilometers north of Nairobi. The elephant, which was grazing in Mere Forest, inflicted serious injuries upon the man, who later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
