Alleged B.C. Drug Trafficker Arrested in Oman After Three-Year Manhunt

Cody Timothy Casey, a fugitive on the run for three years from drug and weapons charges, has been arrested in Oman. He appeared in Vancouver Provincial Court on April 25 and is now facing 17 charges, including serious drug trafficking and firearm offences. His previous attempts to evade law enforcement include cutting off an ankle monitor before his trial in 2022.

Official documents indicate that he was charged on October 8, 2021, related to incidents dating back to July 27, 2020. The allegations against Casey include possession of drugs like fentanyl, methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, and ketamine for the purpose of trafficking.

In addition to the drug charges, there are serious firearm allegations. The charges from that same date mention Casey’s possession of a Sturmgewehr STG44 semi-automatic .22 long rifle, an Akkar model Churchill pump-action shotgun, and a Mossberg model 715 Tactical T 22 semi-automatic rifle. On the initial charges, he had been granted bail by Judge John Milne under a significant condition of $200,000, including a requirement to hand over his passport.

The case further deepened when Casey was linked with Janell Elizabeth Sandhu for allegedly producing and trafficking dangerous drugs between December 12, 2019, and February 14, 2020. Initially, he was released with an electronic monitoring bracelet. However, Casey’s troubles escalated when he cut off this bracelet on April 10, 2022, just days before he was due in court for trial.

The Vancouver Police Department had, in June 2023, put out a call for public help in locating him. “The organized crime section began an investigation in February 2020. This ultimately led to serious charges against Casey involving fentanyl production and trafficking,” stated Insp. Phil Heard. He added that authorities suspected Casey fled Canada prior to his trial. Local investigations suggested that some individuals in Metro Vancouver might know of his whereabouts.

A significant police operation conducted by the VPD on February 16, 2020, led to the dismantling of a drug lab in a downtown Vancouver condo where over four kilograms of fentanyl were recovered. The details surrounding his case worsened with major police raids on July 27, 2020, that seized over 20 kilograms of fentanyl and nearly 10 kilograms of methamphetamine, alongside three firearms, a live grenade, and more than $315,000 in cash.

The estimated street value of the drugs seized during these raids was close to $5 million. Following these events, Casey was arrested but later released on bail, only to skip out before his court date. Now, with his recent capture, it seems Casey’s ability to evade authorities has finally come to an end.
