Autonomous Mining Trucks Revolutionize Operations in Inner Mongolia

A total of 135 extended-range autonomous mining trucks have been delivered to the Zakhnuur Coal Company in Inner Mongolia, marking a milestone as the first unmanned mining truck project in the region with over 100 units. In a groundbreaking development for the mining sector, 135 extended-range autonomous mining trucks have been deployed at the Zakhnuur Coal Company, part of the State Power Investment Corporation. This delivery, dated May 10, signifies the first large-scale implementation of unmanned mining trucks in Inner Mongolia, exceeding 100 units. This initiative is expected to enhance operations in an area characterized by numerous challenges, including high-altitude terrain.

Zakhnuur Coal Company, a prominent energy provider in northeastern China, showcases an impressive portfolio with an approved coal production capacity of 18 million metric tons and an extensive capability for stripping more than 120 million cubic meters of earth and rock. The company’s ongoing efforts to switch to intelligent and unmanned options are aimed at boosting both safety and operational efficiency.

The trial phase kicked off in early 2024 when Zakhnuur joined forces with three leading industry experts, including EACON, to test the new autonomous vehicles. To date, the trucks have successfully navigated over 770,000 kilometers and have managed to transport upwards of 5.25 million cubic meters of material. With speeds reaching 35 kilometers per hour, the autonomous fleet has been reported to operate at about 90 percent of the efficiency of human laborers.

Remarkably, these autonomous trucks have also resulted in a reduction of fuel consumption by 20-30 percent while maintaining an impeccable safety record with zero reported incidents. This leap in efficiency not only places Zakhnuur Coal Company ahead in cost-effective operations but also sets a new standard for future mining projects in similarly challenging environments.
