BYD has launched the Sealion 07 electric SUV, known as the Sealion 7 in Guatemala. The model aims to enhance the adoption of new energy vehicles in the region, providing competition to the Tesla Model Y. BYD’s recent expansion into Guatemala, where it partners with Grupo Confiño, continues its global strategy post the introduction of its e-Platform 3.0 Evo in China.

BYD has officially launched its Sealion 07 electric SUV in Guatemala, where the model is marketed as the Sealion 7. This renaming aligns with BYD’s strategy of standardizing product names across various international markets. The SUV went on sale on May 22, marking another advancement for BYD’s global reach in the electric vehicle sector.

The introduction of the Sealion 7 is expected to promote the adoption of new energy vehicles (NEVs) among Guatemalan consumers. A spokesperson from BYD emphasized the company’s commitment to providing environmentally friendly vehicles, potentially influencing more buyers to opt for electric options.

This release follows BYD’s introduction of its new e-Platform 3.0 Evo in China earlier this month, which serves as the foundation for the Sealion 07. Priced starting at approximately $26,360 in China, this model is seen as a direct competitor to popular electric vehicles like Tesla’s Model Y.

BYD’s strategy has been to penetrate multiple international markets with the Sealion 07. Prior to this launch, the model had already made its way into markets such as Norway, Thailand, and Mexico. Guatemala, located just south of Mexico with Guatemala City as its capital, is another key addition to BYD’s growing list of global territories.

Since its entry into the Guatemalan market in November 2024, BYD has been working with local dealer Grupo Confiño. Initially, they launched four electric vehicle models: Han, Tang, Song Plus DM-i, and Seal. In addition, the company now offers several other models, including the Dolphin and Yuan Plus, underscoring BYD’s expanding offerings.

As the leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles in China, BYD reported impressive figures this year, with NEV sales hitting 1,380,893 units from January to April, which is a 46.98% increase from the previous year. Additionally, overseas sales during this period surged by 105.29%, totaling 285,170 units, showcasing BYD’s growing international market presence.

In summary, BYD’s launch of the Sealion 07, now the Sealion 7 in Guatemala, represents a significant step in promoting electric vehicles in the Central American market. This initiative reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and showcases its aggressive international expansion strategy. With remarkable sales figures and a diverse range of vehicles, BYD continues to solidify its position as a leader in the electric vehicle industry.
