Police Recover Stolen Truck Loaded with Cement
In a significant breakthrough, the Niger State police announced the recovery of a stolen truck thoroughly loaded with approximately 900 bags of cement. This successful operation also resulted in the arrest of three individuals believed to be connected to the theft. The spokesperson for the police command, Wasiu Abiodun, shared the details during a press briefing on Thursday, conducted in Minna, outlining the circumstances surrounding the heist and the subsequent recovery effort.
Details Emerge on the Theft Incident
The stolen vehicle, identified as a Howo truck with registration number HJA 995 XA, had been on a delivery route from Okpella in Edo State to transport the cement to a client in Gwagwalada, Abuja. On June 21, around 8:00 a.m., the truck went missing while its driver stopped to search for the customer after parking the truck by the roadside. It appears that the driver had stepped into a restaurant for a brief meal, only to discover upon returning that his truck had vanished without a trace. Following this alarming incident, the driver immediately alerted his manager, leading to the vehicle’s tracking to a site in the Lambata area of Niger State.
Arrests Made as Investigation Continues
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Gawu-Babangida Police Division promptly organized a patrol to the specified area. Their efforts paid off when the truck was located along the Lambata-Lapai Road, still carrying all of its cargo. The suspects—a trio identified as Bashir Isah (22), Ibrahim Yusuf (21), and Halidu Mohammed (28), residents of the Gbamita area in Lambata—were apprehended at the scene. Abiodun confirmed that all three had confessed to attempting to sell the stolen cement, revealing their intentions behind the crime. Accordingly, an investigation has been launched to examine the case further and to pursue possible leads.
In conclusion, the quick and effective action by the Nigerian police led to the recovery of a stolen truck loaded with cement and the arrest of three suspects. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance in theft prevention and law enforcement’s role in ensuring public safety. The investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement officials seeking additional information related to the case.
