The police in Eldama Ravine are currently investigating a suspected human trafficking syndicate. This investigation was initiated after officers seized a vehicle transporting 20 women in suspicious circumstances. The women appeared malnourished and lacked valid identification documents, prompting concern about their welfare and the nature of their transit.

The incident occurred when a Toyota Hiace, carrying the women, was stopped for speeding at the Makutano junction along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway. The driver, upon noticing the police, fled the scene, leading authorities to question the women. Following initial inquiries, the women were taken to the Makutano Police Station and subsequently transferred to the Koibatek Sub-County Police Station for further examination.

Koibatek Sub-County Police Commander Joel Chepkwony noted that the women were dressed in buibuis and possessed no form of identification. The Officer in Charge of Criminal Investigations, Richard Cheruyot, indicated that the women ranged in age from 20 to 25 years. They hail from various regions, including seven from Mombasa and others from Kakamega, Kwale, Nairobi, and several other locations.

Cheryuot stated that the women would remain in custody while investigations unfold, aiming to uncover the full circumstances of the case and those involved. He assured that efforts are underway to gather complete details and identify any potential perpetrators linked to the syndicate.

Further, law enforcement is coordinating with the National Transport Services Authority to determine the ownership of the vehicle and ascertain the intended destination of the women. This collaboration is crucial for piecing together the elements of this suspected trafficking operation.

In summary, police in Eldama Ravine are addressing a significant suspected human trafficking case involving 20 women.
