Kenya Weather Forecast: Rainfalls and High Temperatures Ahead

Kenya is set to experience moderate rainfall and elevated temperatures in various regions over the upcoming week, with predictions of light rainfall primarily in western Kenya. The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued warnings for potential heavy rain and increased temperatures, particularly in certain areas. A forewarning for elevated heat stress is applicable to eastern counties, while seasonal forecasts indicate mixed rainfall patterns across the region.

Kenya is anticipated to experience moderate rainfall accompanied by high temperatures across various regions over the next week. The Igad Climate Predictions and Applications Center (ICPAC) has forecasted light rainfall within the country, particularly in western Kenya, where precipitation levels are expected to fall below 50 mm. This forecast extends to adjacent regions such as southern and western Uganda, most of South Sudan, parts of northern Tanzania, and central to southwestern Ethiopia.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has also issued a warning regarding rainfall across most regions, highlighting the potential for isolated heavy downpours. Between March 11 and March 17, areas including Nairobi, Murang’a, and Kiambu Counties are likely to receive morning rains at the outset and conclusion of the forecast period while also enjoying sunny intervals. Additionally, the Met predicts afternoon and night thunderstorms may occur intermittently during the forecasted timeframe, with rainfall intensity likely diminishing midway but increasing as the week progresses.

In terms of temperature, Kenya is expected to experience warmer conditions, particularly with some areas forecasted to exceed 32 °C. According to IGAD, eastern South Sudan, western Ethiopia, and northwestern Kenya are among the areas expected to record these elevated temperatures. Conversely, regions such as parts of Nairobi, Kiambu, Nakuru, Busia, and Eldoret may remain relatively cooler, with temperatures anticipated to be below 20 °C.

Furthermore, residents in certain eastern Kenyan counties, including Makueni, Machakos, and Taita Taveta, are warned of “elevated heat stress.” The seasonal forecast indicates drier-than-normal conditions for much of Ethiopia, Somalia, Djibouti, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, western Uganda, South Sudan, and northwestern Tanzania. However, it also notes that wetter conditions are expected in western and southwestern Kenya, eastern Uganda, eastern South Sudan, western Ethiopia, and considerable parts of Tanzania.

In summary, Kenya and its neighboring regions are predicted to receive moderate rainfall, particularly in western Kenya, alongside anticipated high temperatures exceeding 32 °C in some areas.
