Kamrul Islam was the son of the late Abdul Mannan Miah and had relocated to South Africa twelve years ago, initially securing employment before establishing his own business. His elder brother, Kamruzzaman, confirmed the news and indicated that Kamrul was planning a return to Bangladesh soon.

According to reports, two armed robbers invaded Kamrul’s shop as he was preparing to close for the night. After looting cash and valuables, the assailants forced him outside, suspecting he had more money in his vehicle. Eyewitnesses noted that he was shot in the chest, resulting in immediate death. Kamruzzaman mentioned that the family is coordinating with relatives in South Africa to repatriate Kamrul’s body and is seeking assistance from the government.

SM Azharul Islam, the UNO of Daganbhuiyan Upazila, confirmed knowledge of the situation, stating that efforts are underway to communicate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the incident and its implications for the family. Their focus remains on providing necessary support to the bereaved family and navigating the logistical challenges of the situation.
