Effective Water Exercises for Weight Loss and Fat Burning

A new study reveals that water-based exercises can lead to significant weight loss, with participants losing an average of 3.175 kg in 10 weeks. Recent research indicates that specific water-based exercises can significantly aid in weight loss, with individuals potentially shedding 3.175 kg within a 10-week period. Engaging in varied exercises such as Zumba, yoga, and water running for one hour regularly contributes to weight reduction and a decrease in waist size by 3 cm, as reported by “Russia Today.”

The advantages of these water exercises include the added resistance from water, which enhances calorie burning and promotes more effective weight loss. Additionally, water provides support to the joints, notably the knees and ankles, thereby minimizing injury risk, particularly for overweight individuals.

A collaborative study conducted by researchers from Korea and China analyzed nearly 300 participants aged 20 to 70. The findings indicated that underwater exercises were especially beneficial for women over the age of 45. This study compiled results from 10 clinical trials in various nations, including Malaysia, Brazil, India, the United States, and the Netherlands, assessing the impact of aquatic exercises on weight loss.

Participants, classified as overweight or obese, were involved in a water fitness program conducted over 6 to 12 weeks, which included 2 to 3 sessions of water exercises like water Zumba and underwater treadmill training weekly. The results showed an average weight loss of 2 kg in under 10 weeks, while participants who maintained their exercise regimen for 10 weeks or longer experienced an average loss of 3 kg.

Dr. Jongchul Park from Pukyong University in Korea noted that further research is essential to ascertain whether underwater exercises are more effective than traditional land-based workouts. Additionally, a separate study in Poland from 2017 found that overweight women lost an average of 3.4 kg after engaging in underwater exercises for six months.

The study underscores the efficacy of water exercises in promoting weight loss and improving overall fitness, particularly for older women. With the ability to provide resistance while minimizing joint strain, aquatic workouts represent a safe and effective option for weight management.
