Nigerian Navy Intercepts Petrol and Foreign Rice in Lagos Operations

The Nigerian Navy’s FOB Badagry seized 13,800 liters of petrol and 71 bags of foreign rice in operations targeting smuggling between March 7 and 14. The operations were based on intelligence reports, enhancing efforts against illegal activities in the area.

The Forward Operating Base (FOB) Badagry of the Nigerian Navy has successfully intercepted a total of 13,800 liters of petrol and 71 bags of foreign rice during various operations along the Badagry creeks. Navy Captain Oyeleye Omotayo reported that these seizures occurred between March 7 and March 14, based on intelligence about suspected smuggling activities in the region.

During a targeted operation on March 14 at 2:54 a.m., naval operatives managed to intercept smugglers. The Commanding Officer mentioned that the initial water patrol failed to apprehend the smugglers, but subsequent land patrols led to the confiscation of the foreign rice, with smugglers fleeing the scene upon discovery.

On the same day, intelligence revealed that petrol was being stockpiled near Bollington beach for smuggling to the Benin Republic. Upon investigation, four vehicles suspected to be used for smuggling were found abandoned at the shoreline, and 234 jerry cans, amounting to approximately 5,850 liters of petrol, were seized.

In addition to these efforts, a total of 7,770 liters of petrol were confiscated in other operations within Badagry communities. Captured products on March 7 included 6,770 liters obtained from a filling station and 1,000 liters from the Farasime community on March 8, with all actions conducted in compliance with legal protocols.

Navy Captain Omotayo emphasized the Navy’s intensified commitment to combating smuggling along the Badagry-Porto Novo creeks, in accordance with federal directives. He warned all involved in illegal activities to cease or face legal consequences and reaffirmed the Navy’s support for the Nigeria Customs Service and the local community.
