NDLEA Foils Drug Trafficking Attempts to the U.S. and Saudi Arabia

The NDLEA has intercepted drug trafficking attempts to various countries, seizing cocaine, tramadol, and other narcotics. Two suspects were arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport for attempting to smuggle these drugs. The agency continues its efforts against drug abuse through ongoing sensitization campaigns.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully intercepted attempts by drug trafficking organizations to smuggle illicit drugs from Nigeria to several countries, including the United States and Saudi Arabia. NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi announced that the agency seized cocaine, tramadol, and other narcotics, with the shipments cleverly concealed in various items such as prayer beads and clothing.

Two suspects have been arrested in connection to these failed smuggling attempts at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos. The first, a 43-year-old businesswoman, was caught while attempting to board a flight to Italy, carrying 190 parcels of tramadol and cannabis hidden in her luggage. The second suspect, a 60-year-old man, was apprehended while trying to ship a package to New York, which contained 400 grams of skunk concealed within garments.

Additionally, NDLEA operatives intercepted over two kilograms of other illicit substances, including molly, which were destined for the U.S. These drugs were hidden in Vitamin C bottles and female clothing. Between March 10 and March 12, the agency also seized 230 grams of cocaine, concealed in board game packs and shoes, headed for Saudi Arabia, Poland, and the UAE. Babafemi emphasized the continued efforts of NDLEA in their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) despite these challenging circumstances.

The NDLEA has demonstrated its commitment to combating drug trafficking by successfully intercepting multiple shipments of narcotics. With arrests made and various surveillance operations conducted, it is clear that the agency remains vigilant in its efforts to protect society from the dangers of illicit drugs. Ongoing awareness campaigns further illustrate their resolve to combat drug abuse across Nigeria.
