The Super Eagles of Nigeria have commenced their training camp in Kigali, Rwanda in preparation for the upcoming qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Head coach Eric Chelle announced the selection of 23 players on Tuesday, March 11, who will participate in this round of matches.

Nigeria is scheduled to play two crucial matches during this qualifying window. The first encounter will be held in Kigali against Rwanda on Friday, followed by a home match against Zimbabwe four days later. Players began arriving at the camp on Sunday, including star forward Victor Osimhen, who expressed his ambition to lead Nigeria to the tournament in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

Coach Eric Chelle and his staff have also joined the team, intending to strategize starting Tuesday. The players who reported to the camp by Monday evening include Amas Obasogie, Tolu Arokodare, Kayode Bankole, Victor Osimhen, Simon Moses, Bruno Onyemaechi, and Papa Daniel.

Currently, Nigeria occupies the fifth position in the rankings, trailing Rwanda by four points. As the third coach to lead the Eagles during this qualifying period since November 2023, Eric Chelle is under pressure to deliver favorable results quickly. His predecessors were Jose Peseiro, who drew two matches against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, and Finidi George, who faced defeats to Benin and a draw with South Africa. Chelle has already replaced injured Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Nathan Tella with Joshua Torunarigha from Gent in Belgium.
