The Tarkwa District Court has sentenced Enoch Buamah, a 19-year-old illegal miner, to three months in hard labor for theft of assorted items valued at GH¢7,563.00. Buamah, who had previously served time for a similar crime, pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry, causing damage, and theft. The sentences for the respective charges will be served concurrently.
Inspector of Police Patrick Essien represented the prosecution, revealing the complainant, Patricia Kyei, a local hairdresser. Madam Kyei’s home, located on the outskirts of Nyametease in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality, was left locked while she attended an event in Akotom on December 11, 2024. Upon her return on March 12, 2024, she discovered her residence had been burglarized, and the door had sustained damage.
The prosecutor detailed the extent of the theft, noting that valuable items such as a television, cooking utensils, and fabric had been stolen, totaling GH¢7,563.00. Kyei contacted the local unit committee task force following the discovery, leading to an investigation that produced a tip-off about Buamah. Upon confrontation, he confessed to the crime and led the task force to his home, where most stolen items were recovered.
Eventually, the task force apprehended Buamah and turned him over to the Aboso police along with the recovered property. Following further investigations, formal charges were brought against Buamah, resulting in his recent sentencing by the court.
