A Chinese startup has launched preorders for the Dobot Atom, an AI-powered humanoid robot, priced at $27,500, with mass production set to begin this year. A Chinese robotics startup has initiated preorders for its AI-powered humanoid robot, the Dobot Atom, priced at 199,000 yuan (approximately $27,500). The startup aims to commence mass production by mid-year. Designed to perform tasks like preparing breakfast and handling objects, the humanoid robot stands at 153 centimeters tall and weighs 62 kilograms.

Founded in 2015, Dobot is based in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, with additional offices in Japan, Germany, and the United States. On the same day, China’s Midea Group showcased a prototype humanoid robot capable of performing various actions, reflecting the growing interest and investment in robotics.

According to Ma Jihua, an industry insider cited by the Global Times, the emergence of humanoid robots indicates rapid advancements in China’s robotics sector. He noted, “China offers a vast market for robotic applications, with immense potential in areas such as eldercare, children’s educational assistance, and household chores.”

In continuation of efforts to bolster the technology sector, Chinese President Xi Jinping recently met with tech leaders to advocate for the healthy development of the private sector. Meanwhile, a government report emphasized the commitment to enhancing self-reliance in science and technology, supporting the application of AI to advance intelligent robots and new energy vehicles.
