Family of Kidnapped Retired Director Appeals to IGP for Assistance

The family of kidnapped retired director Emmanuel Ofobrukueta has called on Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun to intervene for his release. Ofobrukueta has been missing for over two months, despite a ransom being paid. Concerns over possible collusion among acquaintances have arisen, while the family expresses hope for police intervention.

The family of Emmanuel Ofobrukueta, a retired director who was kidnapped in Delta, has appealed to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for urgent assistance in securing his release. Frank Tietie, the family’s solicitor and Principal Partner at Forthright Chambers, made this appeal during a news conference in Abuja, following the submission of a formal petition to the Inspector-General regarding the case.

Emmanuel Ofobrukueta, who retired from the Post-Primary Education Board in Asaba six years ago, was abducted by armed individuals on January 13, just outside his home in Mosogar, Delta State. On that day, he was set to travel to Asaba to manage the processing of his pension payments. According to Tietie, despite the Delta State Police Command’s ongoing rescue efforts, Ofobrukueta has been held captive for more than two months.

Tietie noted the emotional turmoil experienced by the victim’s family and highlighted their attempts to locate him. Shortly after the kidnapping, the family resorted to hiring a private tracking company to help facilitate his rescue. Furthermore, he mentioned that a ransom totaling N4,020,000 was paid to the kidnappers through intermediaries, yet Ofobrukueta remains missing, with no information forthcoming from either him or the captors.

Concerns have been raised within the Ofobrukueta family regarding the involvement of the victim’s acquaintances, including those who handled the ransom payment, sparking suspicions of a possible collusion with the kidnappers. Although the family is losing hope, Tietie expressed confidence in the Nigeria Police Force’s ability to address the situation effectively. He called for the Inspector-General to personally oversee the case to ensure the victim’s safe return.

Tietie emphasized that the Inspector-General possesses both the necessary resources and capable personnel ready to operate in Delta or any relevant area to facilitate Ofobrukueta’s rescue. He also stressed that it is the government’s responsibility to guarantee the safety of all Nigerian citizens, urging for action to account for Ofobrukueta.

In addition, Tietie appealed to the Delta State Government to conduct an investigation, ensuring that Ofobrukueta’s family is not forsaken during this crisis and reinforcing the need for action by the Nigerian Police and relevant authorities to secure the rescue of all kidnapping victims.
