Despite his popularity among young voters, Mondlane chose to forgo participatory discussions in favor of organizing a prominent march in Maputo, which unfortunately culminated in violent confrontations with law enforcement, resulting in injuries to 14 individuals. Just last week, police actions during another protest led by Mondlane tragically claimed two lives, highlighting the ongoing conflicts.

The presidency asserted that the recent talks signify a commitment to open dialogue, displaying a photograph of the two leaders shaking hands. Mondlane’s situation recently deteriorated following a 10-hour interrogation by prosecutors and subsequent judicial oversight, adding further complexity to his political stance. Official results from the election indicated Chapo of the Frelimo party receiving 65% of the vote while Mondlane received 24%, a count Mondlane disputes, claiming he actually garnered 53%. His emerging movement poses the most significant political challenge to Frelimo in nearly five decades.
