The arrests occurred on March 22 in Lagos State, where the suspects were apprehended at their hideout. Zonal Public Relations Officer Umma Ayuba confirmed that the syndicate worked with accomplices in Mauritania to lure victims under false pretenses.

Following their arrest, both suspects confessed to their roles in this human trafficking operation. Ayuba reported that the first suspect stated she had been introduced to a Mauritanian woman by another individual currently serving a prison term for similar crimes. This first suspect confessed to receiving N50,000 for each girl trafficked, including her 19-year-old daughter, recruited under the pretense of providing domestic services.

The second suspect, who also admitted to collaborating with the first, initially believed she was recruiting girls for domestic jobs. However, she became suspicious after a victim she sent was rejected by the first suspect. Upon realizing that the girls were intended for exploitation as sex workers, she withdrew from the operation. Ayuba noted that the second suspect only sent one girl to the first but grew wary after the rejection, leading to her eventual decision to cease involvement.

Authorities have indicated that once ongoing investigations conclude, charges will be filed against the suspects in court. This case highlights the grave issue of human trafficking, especially involving vulnerable individuals such as young girls.
