On April 4, a shooting incident at the Adventist Senior High School prompted the Ashanti Regional Police Command to launch an investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that a 16-year-old second-year student brought a locally manufactured pistol to school, which was mistakenly discharged during an interaction with a classmate, injuring another student.
According to a press release from Deputy Superintendent of Police Mr. Godwin Atsu Ahianyo, all names involved in the incident are being withheld for privacy reasons. The injured student received treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and is currently reported to be in stable condition.
The juvenile suspect has been detained, and the police have recovered an empty cartridge for evidence. During the investigation, the suspect revealed that he had taken the firearm from his father’s bedroom without his father’s knowledge. Authorities are actively pursuing and planning to arrest the father to aid in the investigation.
The investigation into the shooting at Adventist Senior High School underscores the serious nature of firearm safety and access, especially concerning minors. The prompt response from law enforcement illustrates a commitment to student safety, while the health of the injured student is being closely monitored as the investigation continues into the suspects and their families.
