Daystar Power Implements Solar Energy System at Nexans Ghana Facility

Daystar Power has commissioned a 532kWp solar energy system at Nexans’ factory in Tema, Ghana. This installation consists of 918 photovoltaic panels, providing up to 55% of the factory’s daytime electricity needs. The project supports Nexans’ sustainability goals, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050.

Daystar Power has announced the successful commissioning of a 532kWp solar energy system at Nexans’ facility in Tema, Ghana. This development marks a significant step for Nexans, a global leader in cable systems and various energy solutions, as they integrate renewable energy into their operations. The innovative project features 918 photovoltaic (PV) panels in a fully ground-mounted layout, which is notably the first of its kind for Daystar Power in the country.

Projected to generate about 47.7 MWh per year, this solar array is expected to cover approximately 55% of the factory’s daytime electricity consumption. The installation incorporates an ENcombi controller designed for efficient synchronization between the national grid and existing on-site generators. With a remarkable 99.9% uptime, the system is also set up to accommodate proactive maintenance workflows.

Victor Ezenwoko, country head for Daystar Power in Ghana, expressed that, “Companies in Ghana face the pressing need to decarbonise their operations. Nexans is a great example of how companies can adopt solar energy to meet their carbon emissions targets and drive energy cost savings.” He added that they are delighted to install their first ground-mounted system in Ghana in such a key manufacturing region.
