Armed Robbery Linked to South African Nationals The case of an armed robbery involving a staggering $600,500 loss for former Dynamos chairman Rafiq Adam has taken a troubling turn with revelations that two South African nationals may be involved. This information was revealed in court on Monday, as the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) outlined the details of the event during the proceedings against Samson Gora, a 35-year-old driver employed by Adam. Gora is accused of aiding the robbery, which occurred on June 16, by providing vital intelligence about Adam’s financial dealings and the significant cash reserves located at his business, Merchantman Enterprises, situated on Cameroon Street in Harare.

Investigation Progresses as Arrests are Made

Gora’s Alleged Role and Arrest The NPA claims that Gora, who has not yet entered a plea, acted as the insider who coordinated the access the robbers needed to execute the heist. During the robbery, the perpetrators, identified as Zimbabweans Nyengerayi Chikwadze, also known as Chipato, and Oscar Muchenje, along with the South Africans whose identities remain unclear, confronted Adam while he was at his office reception and brandished a pistol. Adam was assaulted as thieves demanded money, leading him to hand over both $500 in cash and the safe keys. The group then forced Adam into his office, where they made off with a hefty sum of $600,000 from the safe before looting mobile phones from his office and those of employees.

Investigation Continues to Uncover More Connections

Evidence of the Crime Surface Gora was denied bail during his initial court appearance and remains in custody until a hearing scheduled for July 16. Following the robbery, which left significant loss of property, police received valuable information tying Gora to the crime on June 27, 2025, leading to his swift arrest. During questioning, he allegedly admitted to providing the robbers with information regarding Adam’s money, reportedly for a share of the spoils amounting to $10,000. This led law enforcement officers to interrogate his brother Willard Gora, where they recovered $4,400 in cash and several mobile phones believed to have been purchased from the robbery’s proceeds. Moreover, a Toyota Hiace was seized as well, supposedly acquired with the stolen funds. Rufaro Chonzi represented the NPA in the court hearings, reflecting the legal proceedings’ unfolding nature.
