Dominion Energy Focuses on Storm Preparedness for Residents
As hurricane season hits its 45-day mark this Tuesday, Dominion Energy is gearing up for potential storms by applying lessons learned from last year’s severe weather events. Aiken County officials and more than 30 representatives attended a recent event focused on how the electric company is preparing for significant weather challenges. Keller Kissam, the president of Dominion Energy South Carolina, emphasized the importance of preparedness, particularly following the impact of Hurricane Helene on the region.
Preparedness Strategies Amid Hurricane Season
Kissam outlined that having a solid plan is essential for both families and communities during times of crisis. “It is so critical to have a plan to take care of what is nearest and dearest to your heart, your family, so you can execute on your job,” he urged. This message resonates with everyone impacted by storms, and Kissam reminded attendees that one should always expect the unexpected and maintain clear communication with loved ones.
Investments in Infrastructure for Resilience
In anticipation of the next major storm, Dominion Energy is actively fortifying its infrastructure. Among the recently approved improvements is an increase in power upgrades, which include modernizing nuclear units and enhancing power plants. “They’ll see our crews out during maintenance where we’re hardening our system,” Kissam noted, discussing the proactive measures taken, such as changing out poles and wires to make the grid more resistant to storms as well as ensuring materials are readily available for repairs.
In summary, as hurricane season progresses, Dominion Energy is prioritizing readiness and resilience against severe storms. The company’s commitment to upgrading infrastructure and preparing communities reflects a proactive approach following past challenges. With enhanced strategies in place, Dominion aims to protect both residents and the electric service vital to their needs.
