Eswatini Air Receives Air Operator Certificate

Eswatini Air is on the cusp of commencing operations after receiving its much-anticipated Air Operator Certificate (AOC) in December 2022. Though the airline is gearing up for takeoff and will soon provide a schedule, there is still no definite launch date established. The airline’s management made the announcement through their Facebook page and expressed optimism whilst noting that they still needed to finalize some logistics before they can unveil their complete flight operations plan.

Future Operations and Ground Handling Services Planned

According to Eswatini Air’s CEO, Qiniso Dhlamini, the focus is currently on securing operating permits from various aviation authorities across the countries where the airline intends to fly. Dhlamini emphasized that soon, they will share a concrete commencement date for operations. Previous delays in securing the AOC pushed the launch to 2023, but the airline seems to have its eyes set firmly on its future plans, which also includes ground-handling services for other carriers.

Direct Flights Connecting to Major Cities

The airline plans to operate direct flights connecting Manzini King Mswati III International Airport with major South African cities like Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town, as well as flights to Harare. Initially, the airline will utilize its two Embraer ERJ 145 aircraft for these routes. With South Africa being Eswatini’s largest trading partner, the strategic connections to these cities are not just business decisions; they represent a significant step in fostering closer ties.
