Daniel Khalife to Be Sentenced for Espionage and Prison Break

On February 3, 2023, former soldier Daniel Khalife is expected to be sentenced for espionage and prison escape. At just 23 years old, Khalife, who served in the British Army’s Royal Corps of Signals since 2018, illegally gathered sensitive military data and shared it with Iranian operatives, placing military personnel in danger. He had purportedly committed to remaining in the military for over 25 years for these agents, receiving monetary compensation for his information.

Khalife managed to flee from HMP Wandsworth, a recognized category B prison located in south-west London, in September 2023. His escape unfolded as he clung to the underside of a food delivery truck. Authorities apprehended him a few days later on a canal towpath, having thoroughly tracked his movements.

In November of the same year, during his trial at Woolwich Crown Court, Khalife was convicted of violating the Official Secrets Act as well as the Terrorism Act. Although he was acquitted of an associated bomb hoax accusation, he acknowledged his escape from Wandsworth prison. Sentencing for Khalife will take place at London’s Woolwich Crown Court.
